Tonight, while driving in circles around Russian Hill looking for a parking space, Bette Midler's perfect-for-fifth-grade-choral-concerts 'From a Distance' came on the radio. And you know what, people? I cried. Like a baby.
mmm yes.. the bette midler middle school shoe-in (sp? is that even a word?) i remember ALL too well. best part? we performed our version with singing AND sign language. it was something to remember, ames.
don't be ashamed though.. it's a pretty sappy, sad song.

ReplyDeleteyes. *you* don't have to be ashamed, for i am ashamed for you.
ReplyDelete"from a distance, THERE-AIRRRR IS HARM-MONYYYYY and it ECHOES THRU THE LA-AH-AH-ANDDDD..."
my big sister and i used to belt it out big time.
and then it gets extremely creepy and she keeps repeating "God is watching us" and i start feeling guilty and strange.
yeah, i sort of change the creepy chanting to "lala watching us lala watching us" -- because WHO finds that comforting?
ReplyDeletethat song is awesome though. don't be ashamed!
ReplyDeleteThats an improvement over last week's mantra -
ReplyDelete"Its a dirty job,
but someone's gotta do it..."
dun dah dun
"Its a dirty job,
but someone's gotta do it..."
...
I love that song! When it's played on the radio (which is not to often) I sing it like nobody is watching.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm proud to admit it!
Hugs and Mocha,
